About Health Mushrooms

Our Promise

We are an artisanal mushroom grower and functional mushroom product producer with a focus on local and niche markets. Wherever possible we use recycled materials and aim for zero waste. All of our processes, from growing to production and preservation, require low energy and water consumption. Zero chemicals or sprays are used. We use permaculture principles to care for the land that we are entrusted to maintain for future generations.

No animals are harmed in the growing of our mushrooms or the making of our functional mushroom products. We ensure that our ingredients are ethically sourced. We buy and support other local growers and businesses.

We are not certified organic but use organic principles just the same. We use natural processes to grow and preserve our functional mushroom products.

Our oyster mushrooms are grown on a straw substrate with hydrated lime and gypsum added. Hydrated lime / Calcium Hydroxide is allowed as a pH adjuster to raise the pH of the straw, to ensure that other microorganisms can’t germinate while the mycelium is running. Natural gypsum is used as source of Calcium and Sulphur, which is food for the mycelium.
